Middleton sweeps past Craig volleyball

Middleton High’s second-ranked girls volleyball team was too tough for Janesville Craig here Tuesday night.

The Cardinals swept the Cougars, 3-0, in Big Eight Conference play, but Craig coach Blake Budrow was encouraged with the way his team played.

“We played extremely well the first two games, I thought,” Budrow said. “But Middleton is just a very, very good volleyball team. They’re pretty much all club players.

“Kelsey Kennedy did a really nice job mixing it up offensively for us, and Celia Hansen and Amber Bovenmeyer also played well.”

Craig (1-4) will battle crosstown rival Janesville Parker at 6:30 p.m. Thursday on the Vikings’ court.

n Sun Prairie 3, Parker 0—Janesville Parker played the Cardinals close for two games but could not avoid getting swept in the Big Eight Conference match.

Parker (1-4) was led by Paige Demos’ 12 kills and Ashley Ross’ 15 assists.

“Sun Prairie has an outstanding team,” Parker coach Dave Lehmann said. “And against teams like that, you almost have to be perfect to win.

“We’re close and we’re getting better, but the good teams seem to find a way to beat us in the games that are tight.”
