— Things went about as expected in the Big Eight Conference girls swim meet between Janesville Craig and Madison Memorial here Thursday.

The Spartans, who have one of the top programs in the state, won all 11 events en route to a 132-38 win over the Cougars.

Craig High (2-1-1) was without senior and state-qualifier Hailey Schneider, who was participating in school-related academic conference.

“All I asked of the girls the whole week was to give me 100 percent in this meet, and they did,” Craig coach Brian Kitzman said. “Obviously, Memorial is very good. (Jackie) Powell is one of the top overall swimmers in the state.

Powell won two events, including the 100 butterfly where she won with a time of 59.12.

The Cougars host Middleton next Friday.
