Volunteers wanted for city boards, committees

JANESVILLE — The city of Janesville has vacancies for volunteer positions on boards, commissions and committees. Applications must be received by Friday, Sept. 18, to be considered for these openings:

-- Hedberg Public Library Board of Trustees—Two vacancies. This board sets policy for operation of the Janesville public library and prepares the library's budget for city council approval. Board meetings are held at 4:30 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the library.

-- Community Development Authority—One vacancy. The CDA provides oversight into the Rental Assistance Program and planning and implementing community development programs, including housing improvement projects, homeownership programs and neighborhood and downtown improvement projects. Meetings are at 5:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month at the Municipal Building.

-- Ice Skating Center Advisory Committee—Six vacancies: two persons at-large; one person representing Janesville's youth hockey organization; one person representing Janesville's figure skating club; one person representing the NAHL/Wisconsin Hockey Partners organization; and one person representing the Janesville School District.

This new committee will advise the city administration and city council on issues regarding the Janesville Ice Skating Center. It will also review and make recommendations on matters pertaining to the operation, maintenance, marketing, programming and fee schedule of the skating center based upon the community's needs and interests. Meeting frequency and times have not been set for this committee.

-- Ad hoc committee for Oakhill Cemetery—Five vacancies: three persons at-large; one person representing the funeral home industry; and one person representing veterans.

This new ad hoc committee will assist the parks division with developing an operations and maintenance manual that includes policies and procedures. It also will provide feedback regarding cemetery public communications and materials.

This committee is expected to be in place for 8-18 months; meetings will likely take place monthly. A time has not been set.

To be eligible for an appointment to a committee, individuals must be residents of the city and have interest in or knowledge of the committee's subject matter. Applicants should also be available at the committee's usual meeting time.
