Edgerton High scorched East Troy with a powerful running game and an air-tight defense en route to a 41-8 victory in a Rock Valley North football opener Friday night.


The victory lifted the host Crimson Tide into a three-way tie for first place was McFarland and Jefferson, each 3-0 for the season.


After taking an 8-0 first-quarter lead on a safety and Trevor Kinnett returning East Troy’s free kick for a touchdown, Edgerton scored three times in the second quarter for a commanding 28-0 halftime lead.


Adam Gregory ran wild on the Trojans, gaining 169 yards on 12 carries, including touchdown runs of 56 yard, 10 and 2 yards.


Meanwhile, East Troy was held to zero yards rushing until the fourth quarter when the Trojans racked up a 66-yard scoring drive that included a 52-yard TD run by D.J. Sweet.

n McFarland 21, Whitewater 7—The defending champion Spartans scored twice in the second half to top the visiting Whippets (1-2) in a Rock Valley North opener and improve to 3-0 for the season.


Whitewater’s Loussaint Minett scored on a 3-yard run in the second quarter to force a 7-7 halftime tie.


McFarland’s Alec Carr scored on a 7-yard run in the third quarter, and Trent Thomas returned a pass interception 51 yards for a fourth-quarter TD to seal the victory.

Brodhead/Juda 43, Turner 6—The Cardinals posted four first-half touchdowns for a 29-0 lead over visiting Beloit Turner (0-3) in their Rock Valley South opener, which boosted Brodhead/Juda to 3-0 for the season.


Cardinal quarterback David Earleywine passed for 177 yards, completing 9 of 11 attempts, including a 54-yard scoring strike to Devon Seitz and a 20-yard TD pass to Alex Wallace.


Steitz caught two passes for 63 yards, while Gavin Garrett gained 43 yards on 11 carries for Brodhead/Juda.

n Big Foot 36, Parkview 0—Michael Walker ran for two touchdowns and passed for another as Walworth Big Foot (3-0) scored all its points in the first half of a Rock Valley South opener to record its 22nd straight regular-season victory.


The loss was Parkview’s first in three games this season.


Walker, who scored on runs of seven and two yards, rushed for 51 yards on 13 carries and had four receptions for 36 yards. He also caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Steven Dowden in the second quarter.


Jordan Gottman added nine catches for 57 yards and Nathan Nagel had three receptions for 60 yards for Big Foot, which is third in the AP medium-school state ratings.
