Austin Fritzinger saw to it that it was all Delavan-Darien in a Southern Lakes Conference football opener Friday night.


Fritzginer, a 6-2 junior quarterback, fired four touchdown passes as the host Comets took advantage of Lake Geneva Badger’s six turnovers in soaring to a 34-0 lead and a 34-14 victory over the previously unbeaten Badgers (2-1).


Delavan-Darien High’s domination started with two quick touchdowns late in the first quarter. Fritzinger threw a 15-yard scoring pass to Tyler Butke with 3:55 left in the period, and the Comets (2-1) were back in the end zone with 2:01 left on Justin Fowlkes’ 1-yard run.


Fritzinger also connected on scoring passes of four yards to Josh Cesarz with 11:55 left in the second quarter, 19 yards to Fowlkes with 24 seconds left in the first half and 48 yards to Jordan Hesebeck with 9:12 left in the third quarter.


Badger broke up the shutout on Justin Bowers’ 4-yard touchdown run with 6:30 left in the third quarter. He also scored on a 47 pass-yard pass from John Liebforth with 11:50 left in the game.


Bowers carried 18 times for 121 of Badger’s 306 yards rushing. Kyle Poplar added 15 carries for 114 yards, but the Badgers were doomed by four lost fumbles and two interceptions.


Fritzinger finished with 14 completions in 25 attempts for 187 yards. Cesarz had seven receptions for 64 yards.

n Elkhorn 14, Wilmot 10—Elkhorn (1-2) scored the go-ahead touchdown with one minute remaining to defeat previously unbeaten Wilmot (2-1) in a Southern Lakes opener.


It was the Elks’ first victory under new head coach Tom Lee.


With his team trailing 10-7, Elkhorn’s Skyler O’Laughlin hauled in his second touchdown catch of the night from Seth Koepnick in the final minute for the win.


O’Laughlin caught 6 passes for 56 yards, including both touchdowns. Tyler French gaines 132 yards on 21 carries to lead Elkhorn on the ground.


Tyler Rowland ran for 76 yards on 22 carries, including a touchdown to lead Wilmot.

n Waterford 42, Union Grove 14—Luke Christopherson ran for two touchdowns and gained 88 yards on seven carries as defending co-champion Waterford (3-0) rolled over the Broncos (1-2) in a Southern Lakes opener.


Christopherson scored on runs of five and 46 yards as Waterford fell behind 7-0 early, then scored 35 consecutive points.

n Burlington 27, Westosha Central 14—Eugene Ehlen ran for four touchdowns and gained 106 yards on 21 carries to power Burlington to victory in Kenosha, highlighting the Demons’ debut in their return to the Southern Lakes.


Burlington (2-1) scored on a first-quarter safety when Westosha Central (2-1) snapped the ball out of the end zone. Ehlen then took over, scoring on 1, 36, 1 and 12-yard runs.


Austin Damascke passed to Dustin Milz (43 and seven yards) for both of Westosha Central’s touchdowns.
