Janesville Craig and Janesville Parker’s boys soccer teams each gave up five goals in suffering Big Eight Conference losses Thursday night.

The Cougars, who were tied with Madison La Follette at 2-2 after one half, surrendered three goals in the second half in losing 5-2.

Parker trailed 1-0 at half against Madison West but saw the Regents tally four goals in the second half in a 5-0 victory.

Despite the shutout loss, Parker coach Andy Holmes was pleased with the way his young team battled.

“We improved in every aspect of our game, compared to the (Madison) East game on Tuesday,” Holmes said.

“To their credit, West played some of their reserves and that allowed us to work on some things. They showed great sportsmanship for doing that.”

Parker (0-8, 0-3) will host a triangular on Saturday that also features Poynette/Portage and Appleton West. The Vikings open against Poynette/Portage at 9:30 a.m. at the high school.

“You could feel the momentum shift when they went ahead 4-2 after getting two quick goals,” Craig first-year coach Charles Friedrich said. “Before that, it was a great game. They would score, we would answer with a goal of our own.”
