A private group wants the City of Janesville to invest up to $2.5 million in a new ice rink, but the city manager isn't sure it's feasible.
Eric Levitt says the city could make improvements to the current ice rink for about $1.3 million. The city council could include a new rink in long-term plans, but the city faces multiple budget issues right now. The city council is also scheduled to discuss advertising at the current ice rink. Levitt says part of the contract with the Janesville Jets allows advertising with approval from the city, but it's not clear whether that comes from the council or administration.
Levitt says proposed beer signs fall into a gray area of advertising.

Befair: I agree with you. We need more commonsense politicians.
On the so-called investment in an ice-rink that will be given over to private for-profit entity, I'd like the city to give me 2.5 million dollars, and in return, I'd promise that I would make some (notice unspecified) amount of money for the community.

The more I read about our new city manager, the more I like him. I think he's the right person to steer us through these financially tough times. Thoughtful, conservative, practical, strong enough to express a well-studied opinion that might not be the most popular. We're lucky to have his hand at the helm right now.
