Tough cuts for Beloit city budget
Beloit City Manager Larry Arft says this was the toughest budget yet.
Anticipated losses in revenue are forcing deep cuts in the budget. Even though the budget will actually be lower compared to last year, Arft anticipates the tax levy will need to be raised by the maximum amount allowed by law. The city's bargaining units have been asked to eliminate a pay raise planned for next year, five staff positions are being cut, and even the city's municipal pool may be closed next summer to save the operating costs. The average home owner may see a $75 dollar increase in their property taxes.
The budget is expected to be finalized in the next two weeks.

Supposedly the management will get a pay freeze, also. However, they will still get their cell phone pay, which is a bit over $250.00 per week additional. This is separate from their salary, it is paid for simply carrying a on call cell phone, even if it does not ring with an emergency to respond to, the money is paid. Sweet deal there, folks.

I wonder if those pay cuts include the $6000+ that Mr Arft is due to receive?!?
