— Janesville Craig’s boys soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday night.

Marco Garcia’s goal off a penalty kick in the 29th minute of the first half lifted Beloit Memorial to a 1-0 Big Eight Conference win over the Cougars.

The Cougars (4-1-1, 1-1) had plenty of scoring chances, but they could not find the back of the net.

“We played a man down for the last 27 minutes of the game but still dominated play, I thought,” Craig first-year coach Charles Friedrich said. “We just couldn’t get the tying goal.

“And Beloit’s goal was very controversial. I didn’t think the play deserved a penalty kick, but the official said it hit one of our players on the shoulder while he was in the crease.

“It was a great game, but a tough loss.”

Craig’s Max Niedermeier made 19 saves, while the Cougars finished with 15 shots on goal.

Interesting comments from Coach Friederich. Anyone who was at the game knows that the only reason it wasn't a 4-0 or 5-0 game in Beloit's favor was because of the excellent play of Craig's goalie. Both teams played very well but to say that Craig dominated the last 27 minutes would be completely inaccurate (take a look at the save totals). Coach Friederich is doing a disservice to the Beloit Memorial players when he paints the game in the wrong light.

Did Parker have all their players back for this game? I assume so because there was no quote stating otherwise.
