— The 67 carousel horses painted and decorated for the “Prancing Carousels” public art exhibition will be auctioned off Sept. 19 at Grand Geneva Resort.

The charity auction, dubbed “The Final Prance,” benefits SMILES therapeutic riding center in Darien. SMILES, which stands for Special Methods in Learning Equine Skills, specializes in therapeutic riding for children and adults with disabilities. The center this year is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

The carousel horses have been on display in downtown Lake Geneva since June.

Award winners will be recognized at the auction before the carousel horses are sold to the highest bidders. A panel of judges has determined these pieces to be outstanding in the “Prancing Carousels” collection:

-- Reserve Grand Champion: “Clay Me a Horse with Buildings” by Mikel Kelley of Mt. Horeb

-- Honorable Mention: “Water Prancing” by Glenna Schilthelm of Walworth
