— Fort Atkinson lost a 6-5 heartbreaker to Monona in the Home Talent baseball playoffs at Monona on Sunday.

The Generals held a 5-4 lead after six innings, but Monona scored two runs in the seventh for the final outcome. Fort loaded the bases with one out in the ninth, but a double play ended the game.

Fort pounded out 14 hits. Chris Koepke ripped a two-run double in the fourth inning, while Tom Dehnert had three hits, Tim Brokl, Bobby Bastien had two hits each.

The loss dropped Fort to 0-2 in the round-robin series and out of contention. The Generals play at Verona (2-0) next Sunday.

A Fort victory would drop Verona to 2-1 and force a playoff game with the winner of Cross Plains-Monona, which are each 1-1.
