WCLO's Steve Benton reports on the status of the search for a new Beloit police chief

RSS

— The next Beloit Police Chief will probably come from this region of the country.

Beloit Police and Fire Commission Chair, Bob Harrer, says they're advertising for the position in an area that includes Madison, Milwaukee, and Rockford.

He says having someone who is already familiar with the area is important to the commission. It will also cost less to keep the search "regional."

Harrer says the commission plans to meet within the next couple of weeks to review the first applications. If a suitable candidate isn't found, they'll open the search up to a wider area.

Beloit Police Chief, Sam Lathrop, retired in July. Deputy Police Chief, Norm Jacobs, is serving as Interim Chief.
