Sun Prairie, Verona, West win in Big Eight

Sun Prairie High School hammered Madison La Follette, 35-16, in Big Eight Conference football Friday night at Lussier Stadium in Madison.

The Cardinals (2-0) kept pace with Janesville Parker and Verona for the early Big Eight Conference lead. La Follette fell to 0-2.

Sun Prairie gained a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and controlled the game the rest of the way.

Alec Pankow gained 280 yards on 24 carries to pace Sun Prairie. La Follette quarterback Nick Anderson completed 17 passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns.

n Verona 47, Memorial 26—Cameron Bathe, Ryan McDonald and Brian Woods each scored two touchdowns to lead the defending co-champion Wildcats (2-0) past host Madison Memorial (1-1) in a Big Eight Conference game.

Bathe rushed 18 times for 80 yards and caught two passes for 19 more and scored on a pair of 2-yard runs. Bathe also kicked five extra points.

Memorial’s Lechein Neblett caught scoring passes of 30 and 68 yards from Mike Moss.

West rushed for 312 yards on 53 attempts to Middleton’s 153 yards on 38 carries. The Cardinals had no passing yardage.
