— Big Foot High two-way performer Michael Walker held his own variety show here Tuesday night.

The senior standout ran for three touchdowns, caught a pass for another and added an interception for good measure to lead second-ranked Big Foot to a 35-7 romp over Lake Mills in a WIAA Division 4 football playoff opener.

Big Foot (10-0) hosts New Holstein (7-3) in a second-round game Saturday. The Huskies punched their ticket to Walworth with a 40-0 romp over Mayville.

"Offensively we pretty much did what we wanted to," Big Foot coach Rodney Wedig said. "We were able to spot a few mismatches here and there and then got people rest in the fourth quarter."

The biggest mismatch was Walker against the

L-Cats (5-5).

The talented running back racked up touchdown runs of 29, 20, and 1 to put the Chiefs in control 21-0 by the midway point of the second quarter.

"It was kind of a different mentality today," said Walker, who finished with 137 rushing yards on 16 carries. "This could have been our last game, and that was an extra incentive with this potentially being the end for us."

The Chiefs' fear of losing helped them keep the pressure on the L-Cats.

After another quick Lake Mills three-and-out, Big Foot quarterback Steve Dowden capped a quick five-play, 51-yard drive with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Michael Kunes that put the the Chiefs up 28-0 with 1:38 left in the first half.

"It's always kind of hit-and-miss in the first round of the playoffs because coaches exchange game tapes from weeks eight and nine, so it's hard for us to gauge on how they were going to match up against us," Wedig said. "So we came out to not just run a little bit, but to just see where we could take advantage."

Big Foot took advantage of the L-Cat secondary in the second half.

Just three plays into the third quarter, Dowden hit a wide open Walker over the middle on a 34-yard touchdown pass to build the lead to 35-0 with 10:47 left in the period.

The L-Cats finally got things going with four minutes left in the game when quarterback Nick Dunkleberger capped a five-minute scoring drive with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Joe Klocek.

But it was way too little too late for Lake Mills.
