Orfordville man dies in traffic crash
ROCK COUNTY 72 year old Harris Speich of Orfordville died Sunday afternoon as the result of a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Highways 11 and 213 in Orfordville. His wife, 71 year old Ilene Speich, a passenger in the 1997 Mercury Mountaineer, was listed in good condition Monday morning at Mercy Hospital in Janesville.
Reports from the Rock County Sheriff's Office indicate the Speich vehicle stopped at the intersection, and then proceeded through the four-way stop. A tandem axel truck driven by 27 year old Kevin Campbell of Washington, Pa skidded into the Speich's vehicle hitting the driver's side. Sheriff's deputies issued Campbell a ticket for "failure to stop at a stop sign."
Traffic on Highway 11 was detoured for over two hours after the accident.

Why worry about who was or was not paying attention. How about the fact that the truck was the one who ran the stop sign, hit the Speich's vechicle, KILLED someone and is only ticketed for failure to stop at a stop sign!!!!

lilbobby, sounds like you have all the right answers don't ya. How about you go to the hospital and ask Mrs. Speich herself if they were paying attention or not. I KNOW FOR A FACT from the words that came from her mouth that they were in fact aware that the semi was coming but at the last minute realized it was not stopping. How about you grow a heart before you say something so insensative again.

Doesn't anyone use the two second rule? Stop take two seconds to look left right then left again. Then after cars coming the other way are determined to be coming to a stop, proceed. If a truck, car, bike was comin that fast at a stop sign I'd wait an extra 3 seconds to make sure they were going to stop and not hit me if I pulled into the intersection. Sounds like neither driver was paying attention.
