Madison Memorial High School’s football team left no doubts in claiming a share of the Big Eight Conference championship.

Mike Moss threw six toudown passes, including five to Lechein Neblett, and the Spartans rolled up 623 yards in total offense Wednesday night as they clinched a title tie with resounding 63-13 victory over Madison East at Mansfield Stadium.

Memorial finished in first-place tie with Middleton, Sun Prairie and Verona at 7-2.

The Spartans buried East (2-7) with a 30-point second quarter that made it 44-6 at halftime.

Moss completed 20 of 32 passes for 394 yards. Neblett had nine catches for 270 yards, including a 99-yard touchdown recception. Ron Covington carried 10 times for 162 yards to lead the Spartans’ 229-yard ground game.

Sun Prairie 28, Beloit 8—The Cardinals pounded the Purple Knights (1-8) and joined the four-way tie for the Big Eight championship.

The Cardinals finished the regular season 7-2 to share the title with Madison Memorial, Middleton and Verona.

Tyler Patterson completed eight of 14 passes for 110 yards and three touchdowns to lead Sun Prairie. He also had a 9-yard touchdown run.

West 31, La Follette 12—Leighton Settle scored twice on runs of 58 and 56 yards as Madison West (5-4) rolled over Madison La Follette (2-7) in a Big Eight finale to clinch a WIAA playoff berth.

La Follette led 6-0 before the Regents answered with 31 straight points. Settle gained 209 yards on 17 carries.
