Dr. Eric A. Larson

— Eric Larson announced Wednesday that he will retire next June after 12 years as president of Blackhawk Technical College.

The move comes at a critical time for the college, which has seen enrollments swell with laid-off workers over the past two years.

Larson led the charge in 2002 to borrow $17.5 million for an expansion of BTC’s main campus and its Monroe campus. Other building projects during his tenure have expanded or remodeled all of the technical school’s buildings.

“I believe more important than bricks and mortar is the transformation that has taken place in academic programming and in building a strong administrative leadership team that positions Blackhawk Technical College to meet the very real challenges of the evolving new economy in our district,” Larson wrote in a letter to the board.
