Verona tops Craig in Cougars’ swimming finale

Janesville Craig High School lost, 101-69, to Verona to close out the 2009 regular Big Eight Conference girls swimming season Tuesday at Craig.


Craig finished 3-5-1 in the conference.


Hailey Schneider won the 100 butterfly in 1 minute and 8 tenth seconds and the 200 individual medley in 2:14.70, while Kali Schneider won the 500 freestyle in 5:36.85 for the Cougars’ individual victories.


Hailey Schneider came close to her butterfly school-record of 59.61 set at a dual meet in Middleton last season.


“It was her best time of the season, and very close to her school record,” Craig coach Brian Kitzman said. “It was a great swim for her.’’


The Cougars will compete in the Big Eight Conference meet on Saturday, Oct. 31 at Middleton High School.

Leslie Jones took third in the 100 backstroke in 1 minute, 11.34 seconds for the Vikings’ best finish.


Parker will compete in the Big Eight Conference meet on Saturday, Oct. 31 at Middleton.
