The Beloit Police and Fire Commission is narrowing down its search for a new police chief.
Commission President Bob Harrer says they've received a number of applications from all over the midwest. Harrer says 28 applied for the job, and the commission hopes to narrow the field to five when it meets next Monday. Harrer was surprised to see an application come from Alaska. Only one member of the Beloit Police Department has expressed an interest.
Chief Sam Lathrop retired in July. Deputy Chief Norm Jacobs is serving as interim chief.
