— Local police are looking for the man suspected in a string of fraudulent purchases in the Elkhorn-Delavan area.

Elkhorn Police Department officials said the man used an invalid cashier’s check to buy a yellow and blue 1988 Suzuki LT250, a 2006 Green Polaris Ranger XP700 EFI and a Triton aluminum 12-foot trailer with rear loading ramp.

The man also has tried to use the same check to buy jewelry and other items from at least four businesses in Elkhorn and Delavan, Elkhorn Police Chief Joel Christensen said.

Christensen on Tuesday said his department has not received new information about the man.

Investigators don’t know if the man has attempted to buy items at other businesses in Walworth County, Christensen added.

The man identifies himself as Hugo Lopez, though authorities say that’s likely not his real name. He is described as a white male with brown hair, approximately 6 feet 2 inches, 200 to 215 pounds.

The man was last seen driving a white or silver Chevy pickup truck with no front license plate, Elkhorn Police Department officials said.

Police are looking for any tips leading to an arrest or the recovery of the items bought with the fraudulent check.

Those with any information are encouraged to call the Elkhorn Police Department at (262) 723-2210.

You can use the same check as to check it machines and I believe it can be done on weekends when banks are closed.

I think he may have tried to use it prior to the actual puchases and was denied..
When it was accepted he was able to buy all that stuff from one place..

The description sounds like half of the people in Walworth County!
