Requests for financial assistance from City of Janesville increase

WCLO's Stan Stricker reports on increased calls for rent assistance from City of Janesville

Janesville city officials are seeing a significant increase in the number of requests for programs like rental assistance.

City Neighborhood Services Director Jennifer Petruzzello tells WCLO's Stan Milam show, federal rules regulate the number allowed for assitance to 540 maximum. Currently a waiting list of more than two years exists. Petruzzello also says fewer residents are able to pay back the revolving loan fund used for home improvement. A bright note however, more first time home buyers are utilizing a mortgage down payment program.

She says a combination of a federal first time home buyers program, and plenty of available housing stock in the city, is driving the increased interest.
