Local elementary schools honored for promise
Schools in Janesville and Beloit are being recognized as "Schools of Promise".
To be eligible for the Wisconsin Promise School of Recognition Award, a school must be among those in high poverty neighborhoods, based on the number of free and reduced price school lunches. Additionally, student achievement on statewide reading and mathematics assessments must be higher than the state average for schools with similar poverty rates and grade configurations.
Being recognized during a captial ceremony hosted by the Department of Public Instruction this week were Lincoln Elementary in Janesville, along with Gaston and Robinson Elementary's in Beloit.
