— Kindness was rewarded with a strong-armed robbery at 11 p.m. Thursday in Janesville's Fourth Ward neighborhood.

A woman was smoking on her porch in the 100 block of Cherry Street when a man approached and started a conversation, police reported.

The man asked for a cigarette. The woman obliged. When he was done smoking, he asked for a couple cigarettes for the road, and she was reaching to get them when he grabbed her purse and ran.

The woman's losses included $202 in cash.

You want a description I'll give you one. Jaundice colored male of indeterminate age due to the excess of wrinkles. Brown stained teeth, bad breath, yellowed fingers, smelling like an ashtray, and a persistent cough often associated with Emphysema. Do not attempt to apprehend, the second hand smoke permeating from his every pore is liable to kill you.

prinny68 Believe it or not it is not unusual to have strangers walk by and say hello as I sit on my Forth Ward porch and I have lived here for 20 years.

One would think, living in fourth ward, one would have stranger danger ingrained in their head... BUT apparently this resident must be "new to the block" lol. Moral of the story, not all unsuspecting thugs wanna sit and chat up the current events peacefully with you over a smoke, especially when said purse is visable.... AND common sense is apparently not common knowledge.

Just goes to show people cannot be trusted whole-heartedly. I have been asked for a cigarette before but now if they do not see me smoking I say sorry. The price is too high in many ways.

And the gov thing funny.

"Can I borrow a cigarette" is one of the oldest diversions in the book, along with "Can you tell me what time it is" and "Excuse me Sir, you dropped something"

What does 21 have to do with it? Last I checked, legal smoking age was 18.
