— No sense changing now.

After seven weeks into the season, Janesville Parker High School’s football team just keeps pounding away on the ground, piling up yards and victories.

The Vikings racked up 426 yards rushing Friday night, led by 289 from Adam Vesterfelt and four touchdowns, in a workmanlike 29-12 Big Eight Conference win over Madison LaFollette.

“I’m really proud of my kids, because we continue to get better,” Parker coach Joe Dye said. “I think our kids got off the ball, and we want to run the football. There’s no secret about that, and I think we did what we needed to do.”

On the other side, Parker limited depleted LaFollete to 52 yards rushing and led 29-0 before giving up two late touchdown passes. LaFollette (2-5) was hampered with the loss of tailback D.J. Fuller, who suffered a knee injury in practice this week after a 119-yard effort against Middleton last week and did not dress.

Meanwhile, Parker improved to 5-2 in the Big Eight and overall and clinched its Memorial beat Middleton, 14-11, Friday to remain in first place.

“I think we’re getting better,” Dye said. “I think that’s what you want to do—get better as the season goes along. All I know is we’re going to play another great football team next Friday night.”

The Vikings put themselves into the postseason behind Vesterfelt and their offensive line. Vesterfelt had 126 yards on 17 carries in the first half, including touchdown runs from seven and one yards out.

In the second half, the sophomore added touchdowns of 35 and 73 yards to put the game away.

“I thought our line really got after it,” Dye said.

Despite being forced to punt just once, Parker was hampered by four lost fumbles, including one after a LaFollette onside kick with 4:54 remaining. But Kyle Schroeder ended the threat three plays later with an interception at the Parker 1-yard line, and the Vikings ran out the final 4:12.
