— The UW-Rock County soccer team did what it needed to do Wednesday afternoon.

Now the Rattlers will have to wait and see if it was enough to earn the No. 1 seed in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference postseason tournament.

The Rattlers, behind a Matt Santas first-half goal, slipped past UW-Sheboygan County, 1-0.

UW-Rock (8-2-2, 6-0-1) tied for the WCC title with UW-Fox Valle and should win the No. 1 seed tiebreaker based on fewest goals allowed.

“It’s up to the bureaucrats and bean counters now,” UW-Rock coach Grant McNall said. “The tiebreaker is supposed to come down to overall goal differential, and we hold the advantage in that.

“Either way, we’re conference champs. I’m proud of the way our kids rose to the challenge.”

Santas scored late in the first half on an assist from James Baines. Rattler goalkeeper Dominic Amato had three saves to earn the shutout win.
