State bound.

For the first time in program history, Edgerton High School’s girls golf team has qualified for the WIAA state meet.

The Crimson Tide, behind medalist Allyssa Ferrell, finished second Wednesday in the Division 2 sectional at Trappers Turn in Wisconsin Dells.

Ferrell led the way with a 78, including a blistering 2-under 34 on the front nine. Ferrell’s younger sister, Brooke, fired an 80, while Emma Stolen shot a 105 and Brianne Lintvedt a 114 as Edgerton finished with a 377 total.

“We’re so excited to be able to play at state as a team,” Allyssa said. “All the hard work is over. Now we can just go out and have fun. There’s no more pressure to try and get to state.

“We knew it was going to be tough today in trying to get that second spot to go to state, but we played just good enough as a team to make it. There’s always room for improvement, but getting to state is awesome.”

Madison Edgewood, the eight-time defending state champion, easily won the team title with a 330 total.
