WCLO's Steve Benton reports on progress for a new taxi service for Milton

RSS

— Milton's "Shared Ride Taxi" service could start up as early as the summer of 2010.

Director of the Gathering Place, Paula Schutt, says she's working on grants to supply the $15,000 amount Milton's Common Council put in the draft 2010 budget for the program.

Schutt says they conducted a survey, which in turn prompted a study that showed a definite need for the service. In addition to providing local taxi service, the Shared Rides Taxi would also give Milton residents access to other transportation. She says they would like to have the service include Janesville's WalMart, which would give riders access to Janesville and Beloit via the Janesville Transit System and the Beloit Transit System.

Total cost of the program for 2010 is $105,000. Most of that would be paid for by the State and Federal Governments, and fares.
