— Janesville Craig High School swept Parker and Beloit Memorial in a co-ed cross country meet at Rockport Park on Tuesday.

The Craig boys defeated Parker a tiebreaker after finishing in a 28-28 tie. Eric Arrowood was the tiebreaker, finishing 13th to give the Cougars the victory.

Parker’s David Tyler covered the 5,000-meter course in 16 minutes, 37 seconds to lead the field. Teammate Taran Kobs finished second in 16:42.

Craig’s Ryan Fenrick was third in 16:45, while teammates Hunter Salmon and Peter Carlson finished fourth and fifth in 17:12 and 17:25, respectively.

Parker coach Dan Bouska said the tiebreaker loss was disappointing.

“Craig didn’t bring its top runners, and we were without a top runner,” Bouska said. “The kids running still wanted to win.’’

In the girls race, Craig took the first four places to defeat Parker 19-38.

Kate Heaps covered the 4,000-meter course in 17:12 for first place. Danica Reinicke took second in 17:16, Monica Speth was third in 17:17 and Jill Castro was fourth in 17:24. Parker’s Brook King finished fifth in 17:34.

-- Cougar boys receive regional ranking—Janesville Craig High’s boys cross country was named a ‘bubble team’ in the Elite ESPN regional rankings for the Midwest.

The Cougars, who are ranked sixth in the state in Division 1, are one of six Wisconsin teams named to the bubble team. Milwaukee Marquette High School is ranked seventh, while Eden Prairie (Minn.) is the top-ranked team in the Midwest.
