Whitewater High’s football team put it all together Friday night.


The visiting Whippets got a steady ground game, timely passing and a defensive effort that held Evansville to zero yards rushing to notch a key 24-8 victory in the Rock Valley North.


In winning a game that could have a major impact on both teams’ playoff hopes, Whitewater (3-3) evened its conference record at 2-2 and dropped the Blue Devils (2-4) to 1-3.


Whitewater took control of the Blue Devils from the opening kickoff. The Whippets marched 63 yards on their first possession and went up 7-0 with 5:14 left in the first quarterr on Nick Romani’s 4-yard touchdown run and the first of Arianit Fazliu’s four succesful kicks.


Tony Floyd scored on a 24-yard pass from Ryan Owen with 7:16 left in the first half, and the Whippets went on to a 24-0 lead before Evansville scored on Jeremy Weaver’s 2-run run in the fourth quarter.


Romani, who scored two touchdowns, had 24 carries for 110 yards to lead Whitewater’s 195-yard ground game. Evansville quarterback Adam Stamm threw for 186 yards, and teammate Dylan Erickson had seven receptions for 96.

Alec Carr gained 177 yards on 15 carries to lead McFarland. The Spartans gained 310 yards on 27 carries in keeping pace with Jefferson (5-1, 3-1).

Big Foot 42, Turner 0—Michael Walker ran for a pair of touchdowns against visiting Beloi Turner to set the Big Foot scoring record as the fifth-ranked Chiefs (6-0, 4-0) gained their 25th straight regular-season win.


The Chiefs' victory set up a first-place Rock Valley South showdown with seventh-ranked Brodhead/Juda (6-0, 4-0) next Friday at Walworth.


Walker, who gained 108 yards on 22 carries, has 260 career points and moved past Jordan Struck for the scoring mark.


Walker scored on runs of 1 and 9 yards, while Big Foot held winless Turner (0-6, 0-4) to just two first downs, 32 rushing yards and no passing yards.

Palmyra-Eagle improved to 3-1 in the Rock Valley South, while Parkview fell to 2-2.

Clinton was held to five yards rushing on 18 carries, while Brodhead-Juda rolled for 474 yards on 38 carries.


Brodhead/Juda's win set up a showdown with undefeated Big Foot for first place next Friday at Walworth.
