Sun Prairie High School’s football team needed a 23-point four quarter, highlighted by two touchdowns in eight seconds, to pull out a 42-35 victory over Madison East (1-5) in Big Eight football Friday night.


Sean Marshall led the way with four Sun Prairie touchdowns, and Tyler Patterson threw for 252 yards as the Cardinals (4-2) withstood a 374-yard passing performance by East quarterback Drew McAdams.


Sun Prairie trailed 38-29 after three quarters, but the Cardinals finally turned it around on Eric Wilberding’s 9-yard touchdown reception from Patterson to take a 35-28 lead with 3:38 remaining. The Cardinals then recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff return, and Marshall raced 28 yards for a touchdown and a 42-28 lead on the next play.


McAdams scored on a 5-yard run to pull East (1-5) within 42-35 with 59 seconds left, but Sun Prairie recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock.


Marshall finished with 29 rushing attempts for 156 yards. Marquis Mason caught 11 of McAdams’ passes for 184 yards, and teammate Travis Turnquist had nine catches for 138 yards.

n Verona 22, West 6—The Wildcats (5-1) had a pair of 100-yard ground-gainers as they remained in a three-way tie for the Big Eight lead by downing Madison West (3-3) at Mansfield Stadium in Madison.


Ryan McDonald led Verona with 18 carries for 141 yards, and teammate Cameron Bathe had 10 carries for 100 yards. Leighton Settle had 26 carries for 151 yards for West, including a 67-yard touchdown run.

Luke Meeteer got Middleton rolling by scoring on a 90-yard punt return, and Jamie Hofer followed with 18 carries for 185 yards to lead the Cardinals’ 300-yard ground game.


La Follette’s D.J. Fuller ruished 26 times for 119 yards.
