On a night of big plays for Delavan-Darien High School's football team, none was bigger than the one Austin Figueroa pulled off.

Figueroa picked a fumble out of the air and ran 99 yards for a touchdown with 43 seconds left to give the Comets a 33-26 victory over host Burlington in Southern Lakes Conference play.

The win over the Demons was particularly satisfying for Comet coach Steve Tenhagen, a graduate of Burlington High School.

Burlington (4-2, 2-2) was at the Delavan-Darien 1-yard line with less than a minute left, when the Comets (3-3, 2-2) caused the Demon fullback to fumble on second down. Figueroa grabbed the ball and scored the winning touchdown.

Figueroa also caught a 63-yard pass from Justin Fowlkes on a double-reverse pass that was mangled in the backfield. Fowlkes dropped the ball, picked it up, and threw to Figueroa.

Figueroa threw an 86-yard touchdown pass to Fowlkes, and also scored on a 1-yard run.

The Comets also blocked a punt in the first quarter that set up Figueroaís scoring run.
