UW-Rock women dominate late

— UW-Rock County withstood a second-half surge to defeat visiting Western Technical College of La Crosse, 71-58, in Wisconsin Collegiate Conference women’s basketball Monday.

The Rattlers lost a 48-32 second-half lead to trail 51-50 before roaring back to outscore Western 28-8 through the final six minutes.

“We stepped up and won going away,” UW-Rock coach Scott Lee.

Donyelle Bridges, a Beloit Memorial gradate, scored a game-high 21 points for UW-Rock. Tiffany Draeving from Orfordville Parkview added 20 points and Ashley Oldenburg, an Orfordville Parkview graduate added 16 points.

UW-Rock (3-3) will host UW-Richland this Wednesday at 5 p.m.

UW-Rock men fall

UW-Rock County’s men’s basketball team never got off the ground in suffering an 84-55 Wisconsin Collegiate Conference defeat at the hands of visiting Western Technical College of La Crosse at UW-Rock on Monday.

The Rattlers (3-3) made just 18 of 60 (30 percent) of their shots.

“They were playing a zone, and we were not patient with our shots,” UW-Rock men’s coach Scott Lee said. “We had trouble shutting them down.’’

Gabe Mitchell and Corey Kramer scored 13 points each for the Rattlers.

UW-Rock will host UW-Richland on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
