Big Foot's Courier signs with Southern Illinois
Jordyn Courier, a senior at Walworth Big Foot High School, has signed a national letter of intent to attend Southern Illinois University on a Division I women’s basketball scholarship next fall.
Courier, a 6-foot forward, is a three-time All-Rock Valley Conference first-team selection and the second-leading scorer in Big Foot girls basketball history. She has scored 804 career points and will pass all-time Big Foot girls scoring leader Denise Manilla, who scored 1,062 points, if she maintains her career average of 13 points per game.
“Jordyn is in the gym seven days a week,” Big Foot coach Joe Wehrenberg said. “Jordyn just pushes herself to improve.’’
Courier is one of seven in the first recruiting class of Salukies’ first-year coach Missy Tiber.
“The coach wanted her own recruits, and she brought in a big class,” Wehrenberg said. “Jordyn may have an opportunity to see some minutes as a freshman.’’
Courier has led the Chiefs in points, rebounds and blocked shots for three seasons,
A three-sport athlete, Courier also competes in volleyball and track. She has seven varsity letters.
Beloit’s Polizzi will wrestle at Northwestern
Alex Polizzi, a three-time Big Eight Conference wrestling champion and three-time state qualifier for Beloit Memorial High School, has signed a national letter of intent to attend Northwestern University on a Division I wrestling scholarship.
Polizzi has a long list of wrestling accomplishments, including three berths in the Division 1 WIAA state wresting tournament. Polizzi was state runner-up at 215 pounds last season.
Polizzi is also accomplished at Greco and Folkstyle wrestling. He is a member of the FILA Cadet National Team, a Junior National Team member and a Northern Plains Champion in Greco and Freestyle.
