Janesville school transfer-request period is in December

— Parents who want to switch schools within the Janesville School District next fall must request between Dec. 1 and Dec. 15.

Application forms to enroll a child in a school that is not in the family’s school attendance area are available in school offices or at the Education Services Center, 527 S. Franklin St.

Parents who received approval for a transfer last year do not need to reapply unless their child is moving from elementary to middle, or middle to high school.

The district also will consider transfers for changes in elementary child-care arrangements after June 30, 2010, for the 2010-11 school year.

Completed applications must be returned no later than Dec. 15.

Applications for middle and high school transfers must be returned to the middle or high school in the attendance area where you currently reside. Middle and high school principals will approve these transfers.

For the elementary grades, applications must be returned to the administrative services office at the Educational Services Center. These requests are subject to approval by Director of Administrative and Human Services Steve Sperry.

Applications also must be made for incoming kindergarten students, including those with siblings currently approved for school transfer. The transfer request for incoming kindergarten students should be done during the kindergarten enrollment period, Feb. 15-26, 2010.

Parents wanting to transfer their children to other Wisconsin school districts starting next fall are required to apply through the state’s open-enrollment program from Feb. 1 to Feb. 19, 2010.
