Former Milton football player receives honors with Beloit College

Beloit College’s Andrew Christiansen, a Milton High School graduate, has earned All-Midwest Conference football first-team recognition.

A junior running back/wide receiver/return specialist for the Buccaneers, Christiansen was all-conference honorable mention in 2007 and ’08.

In helping Beloit to it first six-win season since 2002, Christiansen led the Bucs in all-purpose yards with 1,507. He broke Beloit’s career kickoff return yardage record during the season with 2,233 career yards and enters his senior season with 4,290 career all-purpose yards.

Christiansen caught 40 passes for 578 yards and four touchdowns, gained 124 yards rushing on 23 carries for a 5.1 average and gained 662 yards returning kickoffs. He was second in scoring for Beloit with seven touchdowns.

Junior linebacker Tony Baratti joins Christiansen on the first team. Baratti tied teammate Vince Salucci for team-high interceptions with three and led the team in tackles with 109, 57 solo and 2½ sacks. It was Baratti’s second straight first-team nomination

Overall, the Buccaneers had 13 players receive all-conference recognition, including sophomore wide receiver Derek Carrier, an Edgerton High School graduate, and linebacker/special teams player Matt Fogerty, a Walworth Big Foot graduate.

Carrier caught 34 passes for 600 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 17.4 yards a catch. Fogerty had 61 tackles, 41 solo and one interception.

Alex Tanney, Monmouth’s junior quarterback was named the conference Player of the Year and the Fighting Scots’ Steve Bell is the conference Coach of the Year.

Buccaneers receiving second-team all-league are junior running back Julian Ross, offensive lineman Zach Poelker, running back Terrance Steward, defensive lineman Kyle Hansgen and defensive back Michael Underwood.

Other Beloit players receiving honorable mention are quarterback Brian Maughn, tight end Eddie Boyd, defensive lineman Eric Ritts, and linebacker Vince Salucci.
