Bundy’s 32 points lead Whitewater to victory

— Senior Nicole Bundy scored a career-high 32 points to lead visiting UW-Whitewater to an 89-75 victory over Loras College in a nonconference college women’s basketball season opener here Tuesday night.

Bundy made 13 of 17 shots from the field, including 6 of 8 three-point attempts. Bundy averaged 5.4 points last season.


The Warhawks jumped out to a 20-2 lead with 14:56 left in the first half and maintained their margin the rest of the way.


It was 55-39 at the half. Loras cut the margin to 13 twice in the second half, 66-53 at 12:59 and 75-62 at 9:35, but each time Whitewater recovered.


Senior Dana Thompson finished with 22 points, sinking 10 of 14 free throws. Chantel Burg contributed a game-high nine rebounds, and Kelsey Hendrickson led both teams with six assists and four steals.


Megan Thune, a Whitewater High graduate, played nine minutes and did not score.


Whitewater (0-1) travels to Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa next Wednesday. The Warhawks’ home opener is with UW-La Crosse on Dec. 2 at 7 p.m.
