UW women cruises in season opener

— The University of Wisconsin women’s basketball team opened the season with a

68-43 win over North Dakota at the Kohl Center on Sunday.


Three Badgers finished in double figures, with junior guard Alyssa Karel leading the way with 15 points. Junior forward Tara Steinbauer had her third career double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Senior guard Rae Lin D’Alie added 11 points on


5-of-7 shooting.


The Badgers finished 41.7 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from 3-point range. Kayla Bagaason led North Dakota with 11 points as the Fighting Sioux finished 26.5 percent from the field.


Wisconsin outrebounded North Dakota 44-38 with Steinbauer leading the way for the Badgers.


Youngblut led North Dakota with 16 rebounds.


Freshman Catie O’Leary, a Janesville Parker High School graduate, played one minute and did not score.


Wisconsin travels to UW-Milwaukee on Thursday for a 7 p.m. game.
