Milton standoff ends with man's arrest
MILTON A Milton man was arrested after a four-hour standoff with police.
At 1:37 a.m. Sunday, the Milton Police Department, along with Rock County Sheriff's deputies and the Janesville Police Department's K-9 unit were sent to the home of Michael Wendt, 23 of 154 East Madison St., Milton, for a "shots fired" call.
Wendt, who was intoxicated, had possibly fired a gun inside the house, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
At 2:04 a.m., the Rock County SWAT team was called in along with the hostage/negotiations team.
Repeated phone calls were made to Wendt's home and cell phones, but it was 5:22 a.m. before the team was able to talk to him. He was taken into custody without incident.
Wendt was arrested on charges of endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon while intoxicated.
In March, Wendt was charged with operating while intoxicated, first offense, for an incident that took place in February. He later entered a plea of "no contest" to a misdemeanor hit and run connected with the same incident.
