A tractor's leaky fuel line is being blamed for a large grass fire along Afton Road on Beloit's West side early Thursday afternoon.

Beloit Fire Investigator Jeremy Flanagan says the fuel ignited as it fell from the tractor, and the driver traveled along the southern edge of a field totaling more than 100 acres. Firefighters arrived just as flames were nearing the farm house. Flanagan says wind gusts up to 20 miles per hour were pushing the flames.

He says the fire was kept to 30 acres thanks to the efforts of departments from the Town of Turtle, Beloit Township, Orfordville, as well as Beloit.
