UW-Whitewater senior quarterback Jeff Donovan earned the top offensive honor in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play this past week.

The Wauwatosa East High graduate helped the undefeated Warhawks clinch at least a share for the WIAC title with a 40-7 victory over UW-Oshkosh last Saturday.

Donovan completed 29 of 33 passes for 229 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Titans. His completion percentage of 87.9 percent was the highest single-game mark in the conference this season.

Donovan leads the WIAC with a 178.1 passing efficiency and 74.6 completion percentage. The Warhawks lead the conference in passing offense, scoring offense, rushing offense, and total offense.

Underwood recognized

UW-Whitewater senior linebacker and Milton High graduate Derek Underwood has earned Academic All-District College Division Second Team recognition.

The team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America and sponsored by ESPN The Magazine.

Underwood, a physical education major with a health emphasis, has a 3.88 (out of 4.0) cumulative grade point average.

UW-Whitewater is in District Five, which includes Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Minnesota. The CoSIDA College Division includes players at National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II and III schools, as well as National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics schools.

Underwood has helped the Warhawks to three consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships, and three appearances in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl, the Division III championship game.

He played running back for two years, switched to defensive back last year, and moved to linebacker for 2009.
