WCLO's Stan Stricker reports on increase in home sales for Rock County.

RSS

The Rock-Green Realtors Association President says she's ecstatic over the latest home sales figures from the state association.

Paula Carrier says after seeing a slide since the fall of 2007, this gives her a real boost in thinking the worst is over. The Wisconsin Realtors Association reports Rock County existing home sales are up 6.1% compared to a year ago. Carrier says part of the reason is a federal first time home buyer program. Sale prices are down 6.3%, but Carrier says part of the reason is a high number of foreclosures.

She says these numbers may indicate the economy is beginning to recover.

Home sales may be UP, but the number of active listings remains almost the same month to month.
.
That would seem to indicate more houses are coming on the market than are selling.
.
I wouldn't get too excited - first time buyers are still able to use the tax credit (AKA other people's money) so I consider this statistic to be an outlier.
.
Was it really necessary for the Gazette to chop this article into three stories the same two week period, two within the same week:

Here are the figures:

.
Note that while prices continue to decline year-over-year, the number of sales has bounced up a tad, both from the prior quarter and last year.
.
In any case, both reports are only as good as the data collected, and may not include every sale that takes place.

Can you tell me where I might find this data? The most recent information available on the south central board shows that we are continuing to drop.

Here is Month over Month for the most recently posted (Sept)

And here is year to date Jan-Sept.
