Clinton, Parkview among baseball winners

Monroe High School skipped past visiting Walworth Big Foot, 3-2, in a WIAA Division 2 regional baseball opener Friday.

The Cheesemakers (9-14) play at top-seeded Edgerton in Tuesday’s regional semifinals that pair into the Dodgeville Sectional.

Alex Dammen hit a no-out bases-loaded single in the bottom of the seventh to give Monroe the victory.

Senior senior left-hander Mike Demianiuk held Big Foot to four hits, striking out seven and walking one. Devin Cochran took the loss, allowing six hits.

n Clinton 13, Brodhead 3—Zach Wisowaty went 4-for-4, including two triples and a double, to lead Clinton to a six-inning Division 2 regional quarterfinal win over Brodhead.

In beating the Cardinals for the third time, Clinton qualified for a regional semifinal game Tuesday at Beloit Turner. That pairs into the Dodgeville Sectional.

After building a 5-1 lead in the first three innings, Clinton hit Brodhead with a seven-run fifth. Wisowaty scored three runs overall, while Cougar teammates Chris Ruosch and Mitchell Cernek each drove in two runs.

Paul Wedel and Kyle Komplin pitched a five-hitter as the Spartans advanced to Tuesday’s regional semifinal game at Madison Edgewood in the Dodgeville Sectional.

n Lakeside 6, Lake Mills 2—Brian Klug pitched a five-hitter in going the distance for the Warriors’ Division 2 regional quarterfinal victory.

Klug allowed both of Lake Mills’ runs in the first inning. He notched one strikeout and issued two walks.

Cory Loppnow and Tyler Buss each had two hits for Lakeside.

The Warriors play at St. John’s Northwestern Military on Tuesday in a regional semifinal game that pairs into the Chilton Sectional.

n Union Grove 11, Palmyra-Eagle 6—Sophomore Joe Balestreri went 4-for-4, cracked a pair of doubles, reached base five times, drove in two runs and scored two runs as the Broncos (13-13) built an early 10-1 lead and cruised to an opening-round regional victory over the Panthers.

Union Grove, which had 10 hits and drew eight walks, plays in a regional semifinal game Tuesday at Whitewater. That pairs into the Chilton Sectional.

Ganther and T.J. Willis had RBI singles in a two-run second inning as Racine Lutheran/Prairie advanced to a regional semifinal game Tuesday at Jefferson in the Chilton Sectional.

n Parkview 6, New Glarus 2—Parkview hammered New Glarus with 11 hits en route to a to a Division 3 regional victory at Orfordville.

Parkview pitcher Joe Cash allowed two runs on four hits in the first inning, but settled down to blank the Glarner Knights on one hit the rest of the way.

Rob Dimery hit a two-out bases-loaded double to give Parkview (12-11) the lead for good at 3-2.

The Vikings play at Cuba City on Tuesday in the regional semifinals of the Riverdale Sectional.
