Engineering students at UW-Rock County may have a bright future, if the latest Manpower survey is any indication.

The survey indicates engineer may be one of the toughest positions to fill. UW-Rock County spokeswoman Carrie Hermanson says the first student to utilize the program, which works in cooperation with UW-Platteville, graduated last week. She says the program appears to be growing in popularity.

Other positions the survey says are the toughest to fill include nurses, machinists, and IT staff.

Engineering programs should only be offered at 4-year colleges. This is one way to save the state money. If the money is to be spent at all, it should be shifted toward money to fund scholarships in engineering at 4-year institutions.
