Four errors and three walks were too much for Janesville Parker High School’s baseball team to overcome Tuesday.
Madison Memorial took advantage of the Vikings’ miscues to beat Parker, 8-2, in a Big Eight Conference baseball game at Riverside Park.
“We had plenty of opportunities,” said Parker coach Brian Martin, whose team fell to 7-17 overall and 4-13 in the Big Eight. “It’s sounds like a broken record.”
Parker’s offensive highlight came in the fifth inning. With the Vikings trailing 4-0, freshman Jake Welch hit a ball that bounced into the ivy on the outfield fence. The Spartan outfielder attempted to retrieve the ball, but he could not pull the ball out on two attempts. Welch circled the bases for an inside-the-park two-run homer.
Sophomore Kyle Johnson started and allowed just four earned runs. Three walks to No. 7 hitter Eric Lutz hurt, as Lutz scored all three times.
“A couple of defensive plays we didn’t make ended up hurting us,” Martin said.
The Vikings end the Big Eight season at Beloit Memorial on Thursday.
