Evansville made up for lost time Sunday in Home Talent League baseball and almost got it a sweep of its holiday weekend.

The host Jays started by nipping Albion, 3-2, for their first win over the Tigers in nine meetings since rejoining the league. Fort Atkinson then edged Evansville, 5-4, in a 13-inning Memorial Day marathon.

Albion returned home Monday and dropped an 18-7 decision to Jefferson, which blitzed the Tigers with 22 hits.

Evansville and Albion completed the weekend at 2-3 in the West Division of the Southeast Section.

In other Southeast action Sunday, Orfordville slipped past Stoughton, 7-6 in 11 innings; Fort Atkinson topped Jefferson, 2-1; Cambridge defeated Lake Mills, 4-2; Deerfield downed Whitewater 3-1; and Lodi handed its first defeat, 9-2.

Whitewater topped Stoughton, 6-1, on Monday; Cambridge routed Orfordville, 11-1 in eight innings; Lake Mills edged Utica, 3-2; and Lodi blasted Deerfield, 18-3.

n Evansville 3, Albion 2—Evansville broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the eighth when Craig Paton reached base on an error and scored from third on a passed ball.

The Tigers, who had forced the 2-2 tie on Ethan Vaade’s RBI single in the fifth, got two base runners in the ninth. The game ended with the potential tying run being tagged out by catcher Brent Cashore on a major collision at home plate.

Matt Drefahl pitched a four-hitter in getting the victory over Albion ace Mike Nanstad.

n Fort Atkinson 5, Evansville 4—Jacob Soriano singled home Chris Koepke for the winning run in the top of the 13th inning as Fort Atkinson improved to 5-0 in the East Division.

Evansville grabbed a 4-2 lead in a four-run third inning that featured Cashore’s double, which cleared the loaded bases. Fort Atkinson tied it with Bobby Bastien’s RBI single and a run-scoring wild pitch in the eighth.

The Jays had major opportunities to pull out the victory in extra innings. They couldn’t score after loading the bases in the 11th, and they had the winning run thrown out at the plate in the 12th.

n Jefferson 18, Albion 7—Justin Guttenberg went 4-for-6 and drove in five runs to lead the Blue Devils, who won handily despite giving up 13 walks.

While the Tigers were limited to four singles, Chris Folbrecht went 3-for-5 and had three RBIs in adding to the Jefferson assault. Travis Wagner of the Blue Devils reached base seven times in going 3-for-3 and drawing four walks.

n Fort Atkinson 2, Jefferson 1—The Generals scored on a third-inning passed ball to break a 1-1 tie and held on to edge the Blue Devils.

n Orfordville 7, Stoughton 6—Aaron Laursen’s RBI single in the bottom of the 11th drove in the winning run and topped off the Orioles’ 16-hit attack.

n Cambridge 11, Orfordville 1—Keith Woodstock drove in three runs, and Adrian Flores pitched a four-hitter to lead Cambridge past the visiting Orioles.

n Deerfield 3, Whitewater 1—Alex Andreburg shut down the Swingers on three-hit pitching at Deerfield.
