Delavan Piggly Wiggly explores expansion
DELAVAN Delavan residents soon will get to weigh in on plans for an expansion at Stinebrink's Piggly Wiggly, 1414 E. Geneva St.
The store is proposing a 13,200-square-foot expansion, said Ben Stinebrink, operations manager for the store.
The city will hold a public hearing on the matter at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, in the council chambers at the Delavan Municipal Building, 123 S. Second St.
The expansion will result in larger dairy, produce, bakery, frozen, dairy and deli areas, as well as a new liquor store, Stinebrink said.
"Expanded everything," he said.
Construction could start in June and could wrap up by Thanksgiving, Stinebrink said.
After the expansion, the store will be 46,200 square feet, he said.
This is the first time the store has been expanded since it was built as a Piggly Wiggly in the 1980s, he said.
The Stinebrink family took over operation of the store in October.
At the same time, the Stinebrink's Delavan Pick ‘n Save was closed.
The Stinebrink family has operated supermarkets in Lake Geneva for more than 30 years and in Delavan for 20 years.
