Janesville Craig High School’s softball team ended the regular season on a high note Thursday afternoon.

The visiting Cougars banged out nine hits, including a double and a triple from Gabrielle Cassady, en route to a 7-0 win over Madison West in the Big Eight Conference finale.

Craig (13-9, 11-7) broke the game open with a four-run fifth. Whitney Oliver and Jillynn Mortensen had RBI singles in the inning.

“It was a nice win to end our conference season,” Craig coach Dan Bayreuther said. “We worked on some things early on, and really put together a good inning in the fifth.

“Now it’s time to get ready for the tournament. We’re playing pretty good ball, but we have to shore up a few things, too.”

The Cougars host Kenosha Tremper in a Division 1 regional opener at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Dawson Field.
