Janesville man sentenced in crack cocaine conspiracy
A Janesville man is sentenced to five years in federal prison Thursday for his role in a conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine in December 2006.
Federal prosecutors say 39-year-old Joseph "Pookie" Hughes was involved in a crack cocaine conspiracy with Jennifer Hanthorn, John Dunn, and Jerome Hughes. Law enforcement officers intercepted calls from Jerome Hughes while he was incarcerated at the Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution instructing Hanthorn and Dunn to acquire crack cocaine from his cousin, Joseph Hughes. Joseph Hughes pleaded guilty to the conspiracy charges in March.
Jerome Hughes, Dunn and Hanthorn each face sentences for their role in the conspiracy. Jerome Hughes is serving a 40-year term, Dunn is serving a ten-year term, and Hanthorn is serving a 46-month term of imprisonment.
The case is a result of investigations by the Rock County Safe Streets Task Force.
