Family and friends will soon be bidding members of Beloit's 180th Medical Detachment farewell as they train for deployment in Iraq.

The Army Reserve unit has been mobilized in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. A deployment ceremony is being planned for June 3rd in

Beloit. The unit may be based in Beloit, but it's composed of individuals from all over the country. It's chief responsibility is similar to a civilian public health department. Members are expected to provide preventative medical support and consultation in the areas of disease and non-battle injury prevention, as well as, sanitary engineering.

The unit will train at Fort Lewis before moving on to Iraq.
