Led by individual wins from Ryan Ahrens, Eric Gudgeon and JoJo Pregont, Janesville Craig High School’s boys track and field team finished tied for second Friday night in the Hartford Invitational.

The host Orioles won the boys team title, while Craig and Oak Creek finished tied for second.

Pregont, a three-event state qualifier a year ago, won the long jump. Ahrens and Gudgeon made it a sweep in the distance events by winning the 1,600 and 3,200, respectively.

“It was a nice night for us,” Craig boys coach Jeff Deininger said. “We’ve got the type of team that does pretty well in a meet like this because we’ve got a number of kids that can compete in various events.

“And Cy Badertscher triple-jumped 44-2 tonight, which is only a few inches away from the school record.”

The Craig girls finished fourth.

Cassidi Running placed second in the 3,200, and the Cougars’ 3,200 relay also was second to pace Craig. The relay members were Jessie Finnane, Regina Griffith, Kaitlin Erdmann and Emilie O’Donnell.

“I thought our girls competed well,” said Craig coach Mark Marsden. “It was a very good field. We were right in the thick of the points.

“It was a good tuneup for our conference meet on Tuesday,” he added.
